Welcome to our
website!
We are the Surbiton and District Caledonian Society.
Would you like to come and join us for some Scottish Country Dancing?
We meet every Thursday from early September until the middle of June
(except on 21st January, 2010 - the evening before our Burns' Supper -
see the calendar page).
Our Thursday evenings are from 8:00 to 10:30 pm in St Marks Church Hall, Church Hill Road, Surbiton (map).
The hall has a car park and there is plenty of additional
parking places on the road.
We dance Jigs, Reels, Strathspeys and have Fun! Our motto -
in Latin and Gaelic - means "Joy through Dancing" and that pretty well
sums up what we get from our Thursday nights.
Apart from the sheer enjoyment, Scottish Country Dancing also stimulates the little grey cells and keeps you fit!
Our club is very friendly and informal - and newcomers are made
especially welcome.
You don't need a kilt, a partner or experience and you do not have to be Scottish
(though we suggest you bring
a pair of soft shoes).
If you want to contact us or find out more about what we do,
click
here or on the About Us link in the
Navigation Bar on the left.
Hogmanay
A glass of mulled wine was offered to the 34 people
(including 12 non-members) who came to the 2009
Hogmanay. There were sixteen dances, three quizzes and a
very enjoyable Canadian supper. We toasted in the New
Year, before singing Auld Lang Syne.
FaceBook
Surbition is now on Facebook! Just search for
Surbiton Scottish Dancing or Kingston Scottish Dancing.
Please also join as a member and do encourage your
friends and family to join too.
Anniversary Ball
2007/08 marked the Society's Diamond Jubilee. We
held a very successful 60th Anniversary Dance on 27 September, 2008
at Tolworth Girls' School to mark the occasion.
The event was a sell-out with 120 dancers and old
friends of the Society enjoying the displays of our
histry, the dancing MC's by our secretary and the great
music of David Hall and his Scottish Dance Band. Pictures
