Scottish Country Dancing can appear complicated at first.  We can all remember what it was like to be a beginner - having to learn not only the various steps but also the patterns (or formations as we call them).

You will of course always get plenty of help from the more experienced dancers.    If you are a beginner and feel completely in the dark about what it is all about, don't worry.  One of us will act as your "buddy" for the evening and show you the basics.

At various times during the season we pay particular attention to the needs of the beginner.  On these special evenings, there will always be some of the simpler dances on the programme.  We also occasionally have special Beginners' Evenings when the club secretary (who is also our principal MC) David Horwill will go through the basic steps and simpler formations for the benefit of those who are new to the joys of Scottish Dancing.

Basic tuition will be given by Jim Cook at our Tuition Evenings which are aimed at the needs of both beginners and more experienced dancers.  These are scheduled for 11th October, 25th October and 8th November.  We concentrate on improving our dancing of formations rather than the basic steps.
